Stage 1 Road Safety Audit
Preliminary Design
Undertaken at the completion of the preliminary design stage, a Stage 1 Audit identifies potential road safety concerns before significant design development or planning approval. Early identification of issues can help avoid costly redesign later in the project.
Stage 2 Road Safety Audit
Detailed Design
The Stage 2 Audit reviews the completed detailed design and considers elements such as highway layout, visibility, drainage, signage, road markings and street furniture. It also reviews how issues identified at Stage 1 have been addressed.
Stage 3 Road Safety Audit
Post-Construction
Undertaken following completion of the works, a Stage 3 Audit involves site inspections during both daylight and darkness to assess the scheme as built. The audit considers the experience of all road users and reviews any outstanding issues from previous audit stages.
Stage 4 Monitoring
Post-Opening Review
Stage 4 Monitoring involves reviewing collision data after the scheme becomes operational to determine whether any road safety trends or concerns have emerged that may require further investigation.
